| SOS Children’s Village is the implementing partner of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cyprus on the “Strengthening Asylum in Cyprus” project which is contracted till 31st of December 2019, with the possibility of an extension. It currently has a vacancy available under this project and is inviting qualifying candidates to apply. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Project Co-ordinator, the Legal Advisor undertakes the following duties and responsibilities: Regularly monitor entry points to identify the presence of persons of concern to UNHCR who may be denied access to territory and/or to available asylum procedures, report to UNHCR, and intervene as necessary;
Qualifications, Skills & Criteria: · Education: University degree in Law. · Experience: At least three years’ post-qualification experience of court advocacy, at least one year previous job experience related to refugees and asylum-seekers, or in the human rights field; experience in case management and counselling; demonstrated abilities in cross-cultural communication. · Language: Excellent command of Turkish and English languages; knowledge of an additional language is an asset. · Other Qualifications: Registered as a practising Lawyer with the Bar Association in North Cyprus; analytical skills; writing/drafting skills; negotiating skills; presentation skills; good computer skills.
